What is the most significant theme from the novel? Explain why it is significant. Read and respond to at least one other classmate. Remember a theme is not a summary of events.

I think the most significant theme is the spirit bear, because when Cole saw the spirit bear his attitude changed. It espicially changed when he was attacked by the spirit bear, he finally understood the meaning of life.

i think the most important theme from the novel is that people can change when given the cnance. Cole, Cole's mom and Peter all change throughout the book and become better people. I also agree with Celine because Cole's attitude did change when he thoched the spirit bear.

I think the theme of the novel is how Cole changed. I think this because it shows how some one can change even after doing something wrong, but as Garvey said"forgiving is not forgetting."

I agreee with Sarah and Celine that changing and the spirit bear are very significant.

I think the most sinificant theme from the novel is really giving people a second chance like what circle justice does like what ty said. The spirit bear helps cole realize in the book he is not the onley one on earth so I think that is also a theme.

I think the most significant theme is healing and learning to forgive. Cole and Peter both have to heal and forgive each other. I agree with everyone that said something about changing and the spirit bear.

Matt H (LRT 1/2 A) said...

I agree with Mike because I think that the most important theme is healing. I think it is healing because throughout the story Cole healed and he helped Peter heal.

I think the most significant theme from the novel is that no ones actions are to bad for a person to change. This is significant because some of Cole's actions in the beining of the story were very poor but by the end of the book Cole was like a completely differnt person in the same boy's body.

I think that the most significant theme from the novel is healing and forgiving. I agree with Matt H that this is because Cole healed and help Peter Heal. They also learned how to forgive.

I think that the most significant theme is how Cole changed. I think this because it shows how you will always have anger but it also shows you how to release the anger in a healthy way and become a better person. His personality also changed when he learned how to become invisible to see the spirit bear.

So i agree with Emma and Celine about Cole changing when he sees the spirit bear.

The most significant theme is Cole changeing. Cole changes when he sees the birds and when he sees spirit bear. After that he starts to appriciate life more.
I agree with emma c that the theme of the novel is how Cole changed.

I think that the most significant theme from the book is that people can change. This is significant because Cole changes his attitude toward life by the expieriences in the island such as carring the ancestory rock and soaking in the pond.
I agree with Kristin M. on how the book is also about giving people a second chance.

i think the theme of "touching spirit bear" is healing not the spirit bear. True, the spirit bear was an important part in cole's healing but it is not the main theme of the story

i agree with matt h that the them of the story is the healing of Cole and peter.

I think the most significant theme from the novel is that every problem deserves a second chance, because that's what circle justice is all about.

I agree with Kristin M, she also thinks the theme is giving a second chance.

I think that the most significant theme in this novel is change. If Peter didn't change to trust Cole then Cole could never have healed and then maybe he would get angry again. I also agree with Celine about that the Spirt Bear is also very important.

I think that the most significant theme from this novel is the spirit bear itself. The spirit bear is significant because it taught cole a lot and once cole saw the spirit bear his attitude towards life changed. When the bear dominated cole in the fight it taught cole a very important lesson. I agree with David k, that cole found the meaning of life after getting attacked by the spirit bear.

I think the most important theme in touching spirit bear is healing. I thinks it is healing becuase cole was sent to the island to heal. Also peter went to the island to heal. To me healing also means changing as a person. I agree with sara because she said that the theme is that people can change and that relates to my theme.

I think the most significent theme of Touching Spirit Bear is change, it's what happens to Cole the whole book. Starting right when he enters Circle Justice to when him and Peter forgive eachother.
I agree with Celine, when Cole saw and touched the Spirt Bear he truly realized the meaning of life and that he actually wanted to live his.

I agree with Fallon and Shelby, that when given the chance to heal, people can change. When Cole was first sent to the island, he really didn't care and tried to run away. After, when he was attacked by the spirit bear he truly began to realize how important life is. When he was given a second chance, he actually did try to be a better person and to control his anger. In conclusion, when he was given a second chance to heal, it changed his life.

I think that the most significant theme in the novel is that people can change if they are given a chance. In the novel many people change like Cole, his mom and Peter.

I agree with Celine that the Spirt Bear was very important.

Nick S. 5/6B said...

I think that the main theme if this book, is that Anger should not control you, rather, you should control it. Because by the end of the book, Cole was able to control his anger, and became a better person for it.

I agree with Celine that the Spirit Bear was important. However it was not a theme

Lauren S-LRT 1/2B said...

I think the most significant theme is if given a chance people can change. I think this is the most signifcant because Cole haf changed a lot from the start to end. He help heal Peter.

I agree with Camille with the thought that she also thought that the main theme was that Cole had changed.

Libby said...

I agree with Emma, If given a chance, a person can change. Because the whole book is about cole going to an island where he learns how to heal.

Timmy E-LRT 5/6A said...

I think that the most signifacant theme of the book is, If Given a Chance people can Change. It is signifacant because almost all of the Characters in the novel canged. A agree with ty because it is circle justice is a big part of the novel.

Josie W said...

I agree with Kristin that the most significant theme is that second chances can really change someone. Because although Cole did some horrible things, he still realized his mistakes and really changed in the end.

Gretchen said...

The most significant theme in this novel is forgiving and forgetting becuase there is so much forgiving and forgetting in the book. Like when Peter forgives Cole, and when Cole wants to forget all of the bad things he's done and be a better person, since he has really found the true meaning of life after being attacked by the spirit bear.

David K (1/2 B) said...

The most significant theme from the novel is if given a chance to change almose everyone can do so. It is significant because almost all of the characters change somehow throughout the novel.

I agree with kristin that the spirit bear helps cole relize that he is not the only on on earth

Ishanghai said...

I think the theme of touching spirit bear is if given time people can change. If you read the book you see that many of the characters change.

I think the theme is how life is a circle. I think this is significant because Colewas mad and now happy, and Peter was happy and now sad.It also showsthat they both needed each other. I thinksarsteffen is also right because that is another importanttheme.

adriana o (5/6 a) said...

The most significant theme from the novel is that if you give people a chance they can change. It is significant because after Cole made a mistake he was given a second chance to change and he changed.

I agree with Kristin because he was given a second chance.

Fletcher B said...

I think that the most important theme from the book is that if made to do so, people will change. This is proved when Cole is attacked by the Spirit Bear. He isn't given the chance to change, he put through a traumatic experience which gives him time to really reflect on life and himself. I think that the Spirit Bear and circle justice are more places and characters then actual themes, because Cole went to circle justice and met the Spirit Bear, which I don't think you can do with themes and morals.

John R (1/2A) said...

I think the most significant theme is if given time people can change. I think that because Cole, Peter, and Cole's mother all change their attitudes throughout the book. Like Cole and Peter hate each other, but in the end they become friends.
