May Language Arts

During the month of May and the first week in June, students will be reading world mythology. In addition to studying mythology, students will be preparing a final presentation. The presentation is due on May 27 and 28.

May Enriched Language Arts

Our final unit for the year will be reading the classic novel Old Man and the Sea. Students will need to complete assignments and should be prepared for quizzes and tests on the novel. In addition to reading Old Man and the Sea, students will need to complete an editorial blog assignment.

4/15/08 Enriched Language Arts

For the next four weeks, we will be reading the play The Diary of Anne Frank. In addition to reading the play, students will be analyzing the dramatic elements of the play and discussing the story. At the end of the unit, students will take a test, compare the play to a current film, and go on a field trip to see a production of the play. Students should also be working on reading a book outside of class and completing seven journal entries.

March and April Enriched Language Arts

During the last two weeks in March and the first two weeks in April, students will be reading The Pearl and working on a four to five paragraph essay about the novel.

During the last two weeks in March and the first two weeks in April, we will be working on reading novels in literature circles. In addition to reading novels, students should be working on completing a four to five paragraph editorial.

This week we will finish reading Touching Spirit Bear. You will take a test on the novel and write a multiple paragraph essay about the book. In addition to completing the book, you should continue to study common root vocabulary and work on quarter reading.

Inherit the Wind Reflection #2

Write a 1 paragraph response to the following: “The character I most agree with/understand is_______________ because…” (Use text to back up your answer.) Then read and respond to 2-3 of your classmates. Try to find entries that are about different characters.

Inherit the Wind Reflection #1

After the class discussion about Hornbeck’s speech on page 34, write a several sentence response to the following:

Choose 1 technological item (TV, pager, internet, cell phone, etc.) and discuss how it has helped
or hurt society. (Has it helped our society progress?)

This week we will begin reading the novel Touching Spirit Bear. During this unit we will also review Greek and Latin root vocabulary. Be prepared for quizzes about once a week. In addition to reading Touching Spirit Bear, you should be reading a piece of ficiton for quarter reading.

This week we will finish studying poetry. Make sure to study for the test. You will also receive your third quarter reading assignment. You will need to find a piece of fiction for the quarter long assignment.
